Lot 18E
Classical World, Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Campania, Gnathian Teano Ware, ca. 340 to 320 BCE. This is a small vessel with a ribbed design and a glossy black finish accented by a design of red and white banded lines and yellow hatches around a central round motif at the neck. This is an olpe, with a handle made of two curved cylinders of clay. It has a broad rim and a thin neck with a tapered body and a slight, pronounced foot. Larger versions were made to pour wine; this one was probably made to be placed in a grave and filled with libations. Size: 3.4" W x 4.4" H (8.6 cm x 11.2 cm)
