Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A wonderful and virtually complete marble capital in a variant of the Corinthian style. Lovely white marble carved in 8-petal star-shape foot, acanthus leaves rising up from four corners, drilled layer of leaves beneath the acanthus and extending up on four sides of the vertical column; small tiered ring at the top of the column with circular hole allowed for the insertion of the second stage of the support. At this size, this would have been more likely from the home of a wealthy individual rather than a larger civic structure. Quite an attractive example and one of the finest we have seen! Size: 15" W x 7.25" H (38.1 cm x 18.4 cm)
