Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 500 CE. A finely-preserved cup, hand-carved from mottled dark-brown stone with faint orange and black inclusions. The cylindrical vessel has a flat base, thick walls, and a shallow interior cavity. Incised along the exterior are four pairs of lemniscate forms with curled ends and slanted bodies (in the shape of the infinity symbol). A small striation rings around the rim. Size: 3.3" W x 3.125" H (8.4 cm x 7.9 cm).
