Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A fine wheel-thrown pottery skyphos (wine cup) with a discoid foot, an apple-shaped body with a thin rim, a deep basin, and a pair of parabolic handles. The underside of the vessel boasts a wide bullseye-style motif in black pigment atop the russet-hued buffware, and the remaining surface area of the vessel is enveloped in lustrous jet-black glaze. A charming example of fine Apulian utilitarian drinkware! Size: 5.625" W x 2.9" H (14.3 cm x 7.4 cm).
