Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A lovely mold-cast brass depiction of the Buddha seated atop an integral ovoid plinth. The Buddha sits in the lotus position with hands in the Bhumisparsa (or Subduing Mara / "Earth Witness") mudra and wears a thigh-length robe with a strap over his left shoulder. His sensitive visage is composed of downturned almond-shaped eyes beneath curving brows, a bulbous nose, thin lips, and elongated ear lobes. His coiffure is arranged in rows of curled hair nodes which encircle a flaming ushnisha in the center. A fine example covered in brown and blue-green patina. Size: 1.875" W x 2.625" H (4.8 cm x 6.7 cm).
