Description:

Western Asia, Persia, Safavid Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A pair of bronze kashkuls, each cast with two dragon-headed terminals and a boat form. The sides are decorated, below the rim and along the lower body, above the disc-shaped foot. They are finely engraved with a dense pattern ofdeer on floral backgrounds. The upper register has a shallowly engraved band of nasta'liq (Persian calligraphy), inscribed with Persian verses. An ornate brass chain allowed this item to be carried; it was traditionally used by Dervishes to collect alms. Size of one (they are very similar in size): 14.1" L x 6" W x 7.8" H (35.8 cm x 15.2 cm x 19.8 cm); length of chain: 27.5" L (69.8 cm)
