Description:

South Pacific, Hawaiian Islands, ca. 18th century CE. A pair of hand-carved stone projectiles meant to be hurled from a hand-wielded sling. Both stones exhibit an ovoid form with a slightly carinated midsection and tapered tips, though one is of a substantially larger size than the other. The lightweight nature of the stones means they could have been flung further distances with less effort and would have been invaluable to native Hawaiian warriors. Size of largest: 2.8" L x 2" W (7.1 cm x 5.1 cm); 5.9" H (15 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s; ex-Hawaiian collection, Big Island, Hawaii, USA
