Description:

Native American, Southern United States, Oklahoma, Mississippian / Caddo Culture, ca. 770 to 1270 CE. A collection of 9 hand-knapped arrowheads made from colorful stones in hues of brick red, creamy white, and gray. Six of the points have triangular pointed blades and notched necks, horizontal shoulders, and a central notch on the base; these are known as Harrell arrowheads. The remaining three arrowheads have a double notched neck but lack the notch on the base and are probably Cahokia arrowheads. The petite size of these is impressive. It would have taken immense patience and a gentle hand to knap the fins and blades without shattering the stone! Size of largest arrowhead: 1.1" L x .59" W (2.8 cm x 1.5 cm); Size of case: 6.125" L x 5.125" W x .75" H (15.6 cm x 13 cm x 1.9 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
