Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine gathering of six hand-carved ungulate bone pins with slender bodies and thick handles, some with pointed ends, and others with stylized finials. One pin has a small perforation near the top; one has a top decorated with concentric rings; another has a rounded top and a chipped tip; one has a small backwards-facing deer finial; another has a five-fingered hand finial with thumb and forefinger touching; and the longest has a knob-shaped finial. Used for everything from writing and drawing to sewing and securing elaborate coiffures in place, this is a wonderful ensemble from ancient Rome! Size of largest (knob-shaped finial): 6.125" L (15.6 cm).
