Description:

South America, Ecuador, Valdivian, ca. 1200 CE. Six bronze tools of the Valdivian culture of the Pacific Coast region of Pre-Columbian Ecuador, two with decorative embellishments at one end. While scholars have traditionally linked the emergence of utilitarian metal objects with the Incas, believing that earlier cultures used metallurgy primarily in the creation of adornments, some functional pieces such as these tools were fashioned by earlier South American cultures. Size: the longest measures 8-1/2". Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108157

  • Condition: All show expected oxidation and nice green patina. The two tools that possess decorative adornments at their termini also show a bit of erosion at these ends.
