Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama/Costa Rica, Chiriqui culture, ca. 800 to 1500 CE. A gathering of six hand-built pottery vessels from the ancient Chiriqui peoples. The smallest is a round-bottomed jar with a pair of raised handles. Second is a squat jar with a trio of hollow legs filled with pottery rattle balls. Third is a highly-burnished redware jar with a round base and a protruding rim. Fourth is a redware vessel with a discoid foot and a cylindrical neck. Fifth is a spherical vessel with a flared rim and an applied loop handle. The largest vessel has a spherical body with segmented bars, a flared rim, and a trio of hollow conical legs decorated with abstract monkeys. Size: 6.8" W x 7.25" H (17.3 cm x 18.4 cm).

  • Condition: Smaller tripod vessel has repair to one leg, and larger tripod vessel has repair to two legs, all with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Each item has minor nicks and abrasions to body, neck, and legs (where applicable), and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
