Description:

Native American, Midwestern United States, Illinois, Eastern Woodlands, Hopewell culture, ca. 200 BCE to 1000 CE. An intriguing collection of 6 hand-carved and polished stone pieces known as cones, due to their shape. Each is formed with a conical top and circular base. Interestingly, four have indentations to their bases which gives them a slight concavity. The true purpose of such stones is unknown, but similar pieces have been found across the eastern part of North America. This collection looks remarkably like "Hershey Kiss" chocolates with the deep brown hue of the stone and glossy surfaces! Size: .75" W x .75" H (1.9 cm x 1.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010
