Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, Michoacan, Nayarit, and Colima, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A set of 5 hand-built pottery figures from ancient West Mexico. Two of the figures are Colima females standing with hands clasped above their wastes. Another a Nayarit Chinesco figure standing atop arched feet. The fourth is a Michoacan standing figure with diamond-shaped eyes, and the last figure is a standing female of Chupicuaro origin. Size of largest (Colima): 0.97" L x 2.85" W x 6.05" H (2.5 cm x 7.2 cm x 15.4 cm)

Provenance: private Ferndale, Michigan, USA collection; ex-private Detroit, Michigan, USA collection, acquired prior to 2004

  • Condition: Repairs to Michoacan figure and 1 Colima figure, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Second Colima figure with loss to nose as shown; remaining 2 figures are intact. All with light earthen deposits, softening to some finer details, and fading to pigment, otherwise in good condition. Nice preservation to overall forms.
