Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Three bronze rings, each with deep red carnelian intaglios, and one high percentage alloy silver ring, also with a carnelian intaglio. One depicts the head of a horse; one depicts a standing human figure; one depicts what looks like fish; the one with the silver band has a simple "X" motif. The band of each bronze ring is ovoid at the shoulders before tapering to be narrow at the opposite side of the shoulders. Size of largest (though all are very similar in size): 0.9" W (2.3 cm); US sizes: 4.5 (silver), 2.25, 2 (one is too bent to be worn). Silver ring is 2.1 grams

  • Condition: Intaglios have some light scratching commensurate with age but motifs are very clear. Three of them are wearable, but the other is too bent to be worn. Dark patina on all.
