Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. A lovely ensemble of miniature figurines comprised of a copper and lead alloy, perhaps once used as amulets or votives. The horse stands on three legs (front two intentionally fused) under a long body with a curved tail and an oversized head that is large relative to the body, with a nicely incised mane and applied bronze ears. The ram stands on four legs with a delineated hairy coat and presents large eyes, a prominent snout, and curved horns. The third figure is a standing deer with pointy horns and a stylized form. The last piece is an abstract bird head. Luristan's craftsmen produced high quality bronze objects for a class of nomadic horse lords whose love of their animals shines through clearly in the decorative items they commissioned. Size: 1.75" L x 1.25" H (4.4 cm x 3.2 cm)

  • Condition: Horse, deer, and bird head are excellent. Ram shows a bit more surface wear than the others and losses to tips of horns and feet. All have developed beautiful dark green and russet patina over the ages.
