Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A wonderful gathering of four petite earspools carved from mottled green-and-white jadeite. Each earspool has a cylindrical plug body that gradually flares into a discoid front face. Jadeite earspools are a symbol of Maya royalty and were revered because jade was believed to have spiritual powers as the embodiment of the wind and the 'breath' that formed the Maya soul. Size of largest: 0.7" L x 0.9" W (1.8 cm x 2.3 cm).
