Description:

Late Roman to early Byzantine Period, ca. 4th to 6th century CE. A fine set of 4 cast-bronze weights of varying sizes covered in mottled brown and green patina. Each weight is circular in form with a concave base, with deeply-incised grooves adorning the 3 smaller weights, and tooled concentric circles embellish the largest weight. The gram weight of each component from smallest to largest is 8.2 grams, 9.2 grams, 50.8 grams, and 53.8 grams. Size of largest: 1.75" Diameter (4.4 cm).

  • Condition: Smallest has minor chip to rim, and third-smallest has small perforation in center. All items have minor abrasions to obverse, reverse, and peripheries, and light encrustations within some recessed areas. Nice green and brown patina throughout.
