Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A collection of thirty-four rings, nearly all bronze aside from one lead and one copper-lead alloy. Most are simple bands, with a few having empty bezels. A few of the finer/more unique examples included in this collection are: one lead ring with a broad, diamond-shaped bezel; one copper-lead alloy ring with a pyramid-shaped bezel; a seal-stamp ring with engraved Greek letters on its broad bezel; another engraved seal-stamp ring with a round bezel and motif of two feathers; a thin ring with a bezel in the form of a long-fingered hand; and a small ring with a raised, round bezel with a wine-red glass bead set into it. Size of largest: 1.3" W (3.3 cm)

  • Condition: None are wearable due to bending to form or breaks in the bands. All have some form of patina, ranging from whitish to bright green. Those with bezels are generally missing whatever was inside of them. Several of the rings have encrusted deposits on their surfaces.
