Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A group of three gorgeous intaglios carved carnelian of beautiful vermilion hues. The largest intaglio features an elegant left-facing female head with a neatly-arranged coiffure and delicate facial features. The second intaglio depicts a similar left-facing bust, however the gender of the figure is rather ambiguous. The smallest intaglio features an abstract scene of a petite fish in front of a small spherical vessel above a miniscule pair of disembodied wings. Each could be mounted in a modern setting and worn as a lovely piece of jewelry. Size of largest (left-facing woman): 0.375" L x 0.55" W (1 cm x 1.4 cm).
