Description:

West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 300 BCE and Central Valley, Tlatilco, ca. 1200 BCE. Three standing female figures. One pretty lady conjures imagery from Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" that would follow centuries later with her flowing locks and shell-like ornaments adorning her headband. The other features an elaborate coiffure, characteristically ample curves and demure tapering eyes as well. The Chupicuaro figure reveals her femininity despite the characteristic angularity of the style. Generous cinnabar deposits. 4-1/4"T, 3-1/4"T, and 3-1/4"T

Provenance: Ex-private Florida collection.
