Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jama-Coaque culture (two paler ones), ca. 300 BCE to 600 CE, and Peruvian West Coast (red), ca. 500 to 1500 CE. This is a trio of small bird-form pottery pieces; one, coated in a solid red slip, is a simple, almost abstract figure that looks immediately like a bird without any cluttering details. The other two, both hollow, are more detailed and have some remaining variegated pigment in the classic Jama-Coaque style. One of these, the true standout of the group, is a half-owl/half-human shamanistic standing figure. The other is a perched passerine with a large head. Size of largest: 3.75" L x 2.15" W x 4.3" H (9.5 cm x 5.5 cm x 10.9 cm)
