Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador, Narino Highlands, ca. 1250 CE. A fine set of three hand-built pottery bowls, each with a wide body and a rounded rim atop a petite circular foot as well as fine negative-resist motifs. One bowl features a pair of abstract simian figures chasing each other around the basin. Another bowl depicts a single enormous red-painted figure, perhaps a lizard or an elongated human, with bent legs and outstretched arms. The last bowl displays four quadrants of dense linear motifs separated only by a large, red-painted "X" in the center. Size: 7.9" W x 3.3" H (20.1 cm x 8.4 cm).

Provenance: private D. Jeppesen collection, Oregon, USA, acquired before 1982
