Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A fabulous ensemble consisting of 3 strands of hand-carved stone beads in hues of forest-green, dark-grey, beige, cream, russet, and coffee. The shortest strand features 21 stone beads and has a pair of large ear spools. The second strand has a more colorful assortment of beads as well as a pair of ear spools flanking a sizable greenstone cylinder bead. The largest strand features the widest variety of stone color as well as a biconically-drilled greenstone bead as the central pendant. An attractive gathering of ancient Mexican stone beads! Size of largest (strand): 26" L (66 cm); size of largest bead (ear spool): 2" W x 1" H (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm).

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000

  • Condition: Beads are meant to be restrung into other compositions. Stone beads are ancient, and stringing is modern. Minor chips and abrasions to some beads, with light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout. Old informational stickers on some beads.
