Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A fine gathering of three abstract standing figures carved from hardstones presenting various hues of green. Each figure has attenuated legs, string-cut grooves delineating the arms and neck, and bulbous heads with minimalist visages. The leftmost figure is shaped from mottled sage-green stone with dark-green inclusions and has a drilled suspension hole centered in the back. The middle figure bears broad shoulders and a biconically drilled suspension hole through the forehead. The tallest figure - on the right side - has a slender profile with an oblong forehead. A wonderful ensemble from ancient Mexico! Size (slender profile): 0.875" W x 2.9" H (2.2 cm x 7.4 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.
