Description:

Ancient Greece, Classical to Hellenistic Period, ca. 4th to 2nd century BCE. A wonderful gathering of mold-formed pottery oil lamps covered in a lustrous layer of black glaze. The smallest lamp has a circular body with a concave base, a rounded shoulder, and a protruding wick spout. The second lamp has a concave base, a circular body, a large loop handle, and a short wick spout with flared tips. The largest lamp is squat in form with a wide circular base, an open oil basin, and a short wick spout. Size of largest (open basin): 2.875" W x 3.75" H (7.3 cm x 9.5 cm).

  • Condition: Smallest lamp repaired from multiple pieces with some restoration and adhesive residue along break lines. Largest lamp repaired from multiple pieces with loss to original handle and light adhesive residue along break lines. All items have surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, fading and loss to areas of glaze, and small nicks to wick spouts and bases. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
