Southern Africa, Zulu people, ca. early 20th century CE. A trio of beautifully carved spoons in the minimalist style of the Zulu people. Two have teardrop shaped bowls, while the third has a perfectly round bowl. Each has a long cylindrical handle with an elongated cuboid portion in its middle that has been carved into deeply incised geometric patterns. Zulu art often focuses on elegant representations of utilitarian objects. Size: 3.45" W x 15.25" H (8.8 cm x 38.7 cm); 15.7" H (39.9 cm) on included custom stand.
