Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 1000 CE. A charming set of three hand-built pottery figurines shown in seated poses. The smallest has a petite mouth and pointed ears. The second figure is female, as evidenced by her perky breasts, and displays faded traces of black pigmentation over her red-painted body. The largest figure exhibits the greatest amount of detail, with fine black-painted stripes denoting her pubis, clothing, and coiffure, and a small child hangs from her back. Red pigment accentuates her feet, mouth, and waist line along the verso. Size of largest (w/ child): 3.25" W x 3" H (8.3 cm x 7.6 cm).
