Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima and Jalisco cultures, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A set of three hand-built pottery seated figures from the Colima and Nayarit cultures of ancient West Mexico. First is a Colima figure holding one hand to a cheek and bearing impressed eyes and mouth. Second is a Colima figure who wears arm bands and a simple necklace with a central medallion. The third figure is of Nayarit origin and bears orange-yellow and red pigment atop the highly burnished surfaces. Size of largest (necklace w/ medallion): 4.375" W x 7.4" H (11.1 cm x 18.8 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966

  • Condition: Chip to headband and perforation to lower back of largest figure. All items have nicks and abrasions, fading to original pigment, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and root marks throughout.
