Latin America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. Skillfully painted on heavy gauge tin, three antique retablos. First, St. Joseph with the Christ Child - Joseph cradles the Child in his arms, while Jesus rests one arm on his shoulder; Joseph's blooming staff is to the right. Next, is St. Anthony of Padua holding the Christ Child. The tradition of this image stems from the story of Count Tiso of Padua, who witnessed St. Anthony communing with Jesus in child form while praying in his home. Finally, a depiction of the Holy Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Ghost depicted with triangular halos - above 4 seraphim with two more seraphim in the upper corners. A wonderful ensemble of religious art from Mexico. Size: largest (Holy Trinity) 13.875" L x 10" W (35.2 cm x 25.4 cm)

  • Condition: All show expected surface wear and pigment loss commensurate with age. Some bending and waviness to peripheries, perforations to corners. There are some stains from candle burning to the St. Anthony retablo.
