Ancient Art. Near East, Holyland (Canaan / the Levant), Iron Age, ca. 1000 to 500 BCE. A trio of ceramic jars that together showcase three different forms of ancient pottery from the same region. The largest has an amphora-like shape and sits on a diminutive, round, flat base, with handles protruding from the low body. It is painted with banded red lines on the buff pottery surface. The mid-sized example is buff terracotta, with a bulging, apple-shaped body and a tall, looped handle high on the shoulder. It stands on a tiny round foot and has a small round spout with a thin, flat rim. The third, the smallest, is very different, and younger than the other two. It is a buff pottery jug, with a flat base and an angular transition from body to shoulder. The handle is formed of two cylinders of clay that curve up from the shoulder to meet the rim, which is rolled down from the narrow neck. A small dot of pottery has been applied to where the handle joins the rim. Size of largest: 7.75" W x 8.85" H (19.7 cm x 22.5 cm)

- Condition: Smallest is intact. Largest has a probe hole low on the body by one of the handles and a chip from the rim. The mid-sized has been repaired from several large pieces, with visible but unobtrusive repair lines.
