Description:

Ancient Near East, the Levant, Canaan, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1950 to 1539 BCE. A set of 3 ancient axe heads, 2 cast from bronze and the largest from copper. The slender axe heads each have an ovoid socketing shaft and a lengthy blade while the largest exhibits a heftier form and a wider striking edge. Each tool is covered in thick, naturally-occurring layers of patina in hues of green and brown as well as russet patina in some areas. Size of largest: 5.4" L x 2.3" W (13.7 cm x 5.8 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection, acquired from Artemis Gallery, December 21, 2017, lot 52; ex-private New York, USA collection, acquired in the Holy Land in the 1990s
