Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. Two wonderful pottery figurines depicting different stylizations of the female body in relatively flat or 'gingerbread' forms. The first figure has wide thighs and a distended abdomen beneath perky breasts and wears excessive finery on her neck and wrists. Her face presents with diagonal eyes, thick brows, and solid ear spools beneath a flat forehead. The second figure has slender, delineated legs beneath a belt set with a medallion. Her head features double-pupil eyes above a gaping mouth as well as a neat coiffure embellished with a grand, discoid ornament. Size of largest (neat coiffure): 1.6" W x 2.75" H (4.1 cm x 7 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to right arm of larger figure and top of forehead of smaller figure as shown. Both figures have light encrustations and some old adhesive residue from mounting on verso. Nice preservation of details.
