Description:

Rome, later Imperial period, ca. 4th to early 6th century CE. A stunning pair of high quality (98.55% and 97.6%) silver rings from Imperial Rome, both featuring star motifs with central granules and surrounded by stippling. The first ring presents an ovoid face with a six-pointed star-shape, possibly a reference to the IX monogram - a Christogram formed from combining the letter I for "Iesous (Jesus in Greek) and X or Chi for "Christos" (Christ in Greek). The second piece of jewelry displays a circular face displaying an eight-pointed star with two applied wires arranged in a diadem-like motif. Each of the rings bands forms four volutes flanking their faces. An elegant combination of ancient art and modern style! Silver quality: first ring: 98.55%, second ring: 97.6%; Size of largest: 0.8" in diameter (2 cm); American ring sizes: first ring: 6.5, second ring: 7.5; Weight (together): 10.2 grams
