Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A lovely pair of leaded bronze rings with petite key heads protruding laterally from the circular shanks. The first ring has a faint midrib around the shank, an openwork key shaped like a C, and dark green patina. The second ring has a petite nubbin on the exterior of the shank opposite the incised rectangular key head and is covered in light green patina. Size (light patina): 1.125" L x 0.7" W (2.9 cm x 1.8 cm); US ring size 3.25; (dark patina): 0.75" L x 0.8" W (1.9 cm x 2 cm); US ring size 4.

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000

  • Condition: Both rings are wearable on a finger as shown or could be strung from a bracelet or necklace. Both pieces have minor abrasions and light encrustations, with small chips to incised portion of rectangular key head, otherwise intact and very good. Great light and dark green patina.
