Description:

Mexico, ca. 250-450 CE. This pair includes one jadeite and one quartz figure. Both are exemplars of Teotihuacan style. Note that their artisans' embraced both material and geometry similarly to Teotihuacan architectural style. Static and serene, Teotihuacan sculpture seemingly possesses a lack of individuality and personality. However, this merely reflects the culture's ironically modern corporate mentality that idealized uniformity. The modern lines of the Teotihuacanos would inspire modern sculptor Henry Moore. Perforations on backside for suspension. 1 1/4"L x 1/2"W x 1/4"D (quartz figure) 1"L x 1/2"W x 1/3"D (jadeite figure) Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970 All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
