Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central and North Coast and Highlands, Huari/Wari, ca. 600 to 1000 CE and Pre-Columbian, Peru, Central Coast, Chancay, ca. 1200 to 1470 CE. A sweet pair of Andean potteries. First we have a handsome polychrome avian effigy spouted bowl, with hand painted black and cream detailing on a red ground from the Huari/Wari peoples of ancient Peru. Next, we have a standing Chancay male figurine with a bird-like visage, funnily enough, topped by a pointed headdress, standing at attention with arms extended and penis following suit, all embellished with red slip on a cream colored ground. An endearing pair, so rich iconographically, from two ancient cultures of Peru! Size: 5" L x 3.25" W x 2.375" H (12.7 cm x 8.3 cm x 6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Leonard Collection, Virginia, USA, acquired before 1979
