Description:

West Mexico, Colima, pair of almost whimsical pottery flats in the style known as gingerbread - for obvious reasons. First, tall figure of very simple form with three back stripes along back, shorter form a bit on the heavy side (looking a bit like a sumo wrestler) shows indication of clothing, necklace and cap, ears pierced for suspension. 6" H for largest, 3-7/8" for shorter.

Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery collection, USA, acquired in the 1980's.
