Roman Phoenicia, ca. 2nd to 1st century BCE. A pair of necklaces which could be worn separately or together as a double-strand, each consisting of ancient glass beads strung with modern spherical turquoise beads. The longer necklace has a single huge, ancient, ring-shaped glass bead with mainly black coloring and wavy bands of yellow and green around it. The second necklace features three ancient barrel-shaped glass beads, each black with white and beige geometric decoration. Size of largest bead: 1.4" W (3.6 cm); length of longest: 24" L (61 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Walter Crawford collection, Arizona, USA, acquired 1960 to 1970
