Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, Coclé, ca. 300 BCE to 800 CE. The pair consists of a shallow bowl with a polychrome design with the feet, decorated head, and tail of a saurian along with a jar with red and black geometric designs that may be the eyes of a snake or other reptile. Size: bowl measures 4-1/2"L x 5-3/4"H x 2-1/2"W; jar measures 4-1/2"L x 4-1/2"W x 4"H.

Provenance: Ex-private Rousseau collection, Durango, CO, acquired before 1984.

  • Condition: The saurian dish has signs of wear and minimal chipping, with intact feet and no evidence for cracking and repairing. The jar has some signs of wear, but for the most part, the decoration is clear and in good condition. There is a minor chip from the lip and two places where cracks have been repaired, one with red putty.
