**Originally Listed At $250**

Ancient Seas, probably found in Alberta, Canada, ca. 400 million years ago. A pair of beautifully colored, "opalized ammonites", each fossilized into beautiful colors sometimes known as ammolite, the result of the shell becoming an aragonite layer. The ammonite was an extinct marine mollusk that was related to the living coleoid family, including octopus and squid. The fossilized rock has a cream and beige color with some yellow-orange inclusions, and the shell has a wide outer arm which curls tightly towards the center. The name "ammonite" came from Pliny the Elder after the Egyptian god Ammon, who was typically depicted wearing ram's horns that Pliny thought these fossils resembled. Size of one (they are similar in size): 6" W (15.2 cm)
