North Africa, Middle Paleolithic (Middle Stone Age), ca. 145000 to 20000 years BP. A pair of red-orange chert hand tools, one a large, ovoid, bifacial scraper, the other a narrower scraper with space for a thumb to press against its long side, made by ancient people that inhabited the region during a time of favorable climatic conditions. Each demonstrates the skill of the ancient person who made them. Size of largest (scraper): 4.9" W x 3.1" H (12.4 cm x 7.9 cm)
