Central Asia, Bactria, ca. late 2nd to 1st millennium BCE (the shorter necklace). A stunning necklace composed of twenty-four disc-shaped lapis lazuli beads, each of a brilliant blue hue with streaks of white and golden minerals. With modern sterling silver findings. Also, Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. Forty blue and blue-green ovoid glass beads, each now aged to have a lovely pearlescence, on a modern cord. Bactrian necklace is 18.5" L (47 cm) with largest bead (they are all similar in size): 0.7" W (1.8 cm); Roman necklace is: 29" L (73.7 cm); largest bead is: 0.5" W (1.3 cm)

  • Condition: Both are comprised of ancient beads on a modern string with modern findings. Lapis beads have very light scratching on surface commensurate with age, but still boast brilliant hues. The glass beads have beautiful pearlescence and deposits on their surfaces.
