Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Two flat, hand-made terracotta figures from a West Mexican shaft tomb culture. The first is a seated adult figure with a child perched on one shoulder; the adult and child have the same cranial and facial shape, and both have been painted with thick red and white stripes. The other figure is a standing woman wearing a nose ring, a skirt, and a wrapped headdress. She too, wears red and white striped clothing. Size of parent with child: 3.75" W x 5.7" H (9.5 cm x 14.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Harvey Collection, acquired prior to 1972
