Description:

Indonesia, Bali or Sumatra, possibly Bengkulu or Lampung, ca. mid 20th century CE. Two hand-beaded woven rattan baskets from Indonesia created via techniques that originated thousands of years ago and were passed from generation to generation. The square one is decorated with brightly colored beads arranged in floral patterns and cowrie shell edging on both the lid and lower container. There are also clusters of decorative nuts on each corner of the bottom section. The round basket presents a lovely woven pattern on both the lid and bottom in red, black, and beige fibers; trims comprised of orange and blue beads zigzagged over orange fabric and red and green beads over orange fabric; silky fabrics sewn over the base and rim of the lower section; and a beaded handle joining both sections. A beautiful pair! Size: larger basket measures 4" L x 4" W x 4.875" H (10.2 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.4 cm)
