Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya, Central Lowlands, Classic Period, ca. 300 - 800 CE. Translucent deep gray obsidian (obtained from Guatemala Highlands). Two large showy examples of the lithic eccentric tradtiond found through out the Maya Lowland regions from the early Classic to Postclassic times. These obsidian types are well-documented from the site of Piedras Negras, along the Usumacinta River, in Peten Department, Guatemala (see "Piedras Negara Archaeology; Artifacts, Caches and Burials" by William R. Coe, The University Museum, University of Pennsylvania, PA. 1959. Fogire 35(K) and Figure 36 (E) for the type.1/2" thick. The anthropomorphic form is 3 15/16"L x 1 5/8"W x 9/16" thick.
