Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A lovely pair of two hand-carved stone heads from the ancient Mezcala culture. First is a mottled greenstone head with a pronounced mouth, a bulbous triangular nose, large eyes, and a furrowed brow. The concave verso displays traces of applied red cinnabar adornments. The larger head exhibits more abstract features such as a bar-shaped nose and tab-shaped ears, and a biconically-drilled suspension hole behind the back of the head suggests its use as a wearable pendant. Size: 3.4" W x 3.7" H (8.6 cm x 9.4 cm)

Provenance: Mark Poolos collection, Illinois, USA; ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA, acquired prior to 1970
