Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 200 BCE. A lovely pair of near-miniature figural pendants carved from mottled greenstone with light green and faint beige inclusions. Each figure stands atop delineated legs, hold both arms across the waistlines, and has plateaued shoulders formed via the string-cut necklines. One head bears high cheek bones, furrowed brows, and a relatively flat brow while the other showcases lower, rounded cheek bones, a slender nose, and a rounded forehead. Each figure has a biconically drilled suspension hole either in front of or behind the forehead. Size of largest (flat brow): 1" W x 2" H (2.5 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private E. Thomas collection, southern California, USA, collected before 2000
