Description:

Greece, ca. 600 to 400 BCE. This is a pair of heads from protomes, both showing figures with large headdresses -- they are probably turbans, which were widespread in ancient Greece, worn not just by kings but also by commoners. Protomes are appliques that were attached to larger pieces of pottery as decorative elements. Both come with custom stands. Size of largest: 1.6" W x 2.25" H (4.1 cm x 5.7 cm); height with stand: 3.5" (8.9 cm).

Provenance: Ex- Private New Jersey collection acquired before 1990
