Description:

Europe, Iron Age, ca. 800 to 100 BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A great set of forged iron weapons. First is a lengthy European spear blade from the Iron Age which features a socketed hafting tube and a slender blade with a raised central ridge. Second is a compact Roman hatchet head with a diamond-shaped socketing hole, a narrow shoulder, and a pair of wide blade faces forming an edge. While both weapons exhibit corrosion, they both still retain their overall shape. A fabulous grouping! Size of largest (spear blade): 8" L (20.3 cm).

Provenance: ex-estate of John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
