Oceania, Papua New Guinea, possibly Yuat River region, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A pair of sculptures depicting abstract nude male figures, their ectomorphic bodies - comprised of woven natural fibers as well as fiber wrapped reeds - also present fingers, toes, as well as phalluses. Their heads are characteristically oversized with bold features including: applied large eyes and a ridge running vertically between them made from plaited fibers, as well as broad noses - one adorned by a suspended nose ring, the other with wooden projections protruding symmetrically to the sides of the face. Natural pigments of red and cream hues adorn the figures as well. Size: 67" H (170.2 cm) and 56" H (142.2 cm)

Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985
